What credits pay for, roughly what things cost, what's free, what auto-refunds, and how to check your balance and spend history.

Written by Support

Credits are how you pay for the work Eddie does on your footage. Every new account starts with free credits, you top up in packs, and credits are spent per operation — the import, each edit run you prompt, each timeline you export.

There is no per-project charge and no per-seat charge. If Eddie doesn't do any work, nothing is spent.

What costs credits

Importing and analysing your media — 250 credits per hour of source footage.

  • Billed in 15-minute blocks, with a 15-minute minimum, so the smallest possible import is 63 credits.

  • Charged once per import, on the footage Eddie actually measures — not per file and not per project.

  • Rough figures: one hour of source is 250 credits, a three-hour shoot is 750, a big multicam day of around seven hours is about 1,750.

Each edit run (every prompt you give Eddie) — priced on the work that run actually does.

  • There is no flat rate here, because "tighten the intro" and "build me a 20-minute assembly from six hours of interview" are not the same job.

  • In practice a small, targeted change lands in the tens of credits; a first assembly across a lot of footage can run into the hundreds, and a very large one into roughly a thousand.

  • You can ask before you spend. Tell Eddie "how much will this cost?" or "only do this if it's free" and it checks the price before doing paid work.

Sending a timeline to your NLE — 50 credits per export, wherever you do it.

  • Same 50 for every timeline format: Premiere .prproj, Resolve .drp, the Premiere .xml, FCPXML (Final Cut and the Resolve flavour), OTIO, and EDL for Avid.

  • Same 50 on every surface — the browser, the Eddie desktop app and the Eddie MCP tools. One artifact, one price; it never costs less because of which window you were in.

  • One charge per export you download. Download the same timeline again later and that's another 50 — so grab the file rather than re-exporting it.

  • If the export fails to build, you are not charged.

Two other export lanes carry a flat 10-credit delivery fee — the desktop app's local MP4 render, and sending a finished MP4 to Frame.io or iconik. ProRes 4444 renders (alpha graphics tracks, captions with alpha) cost 300, on desktop and in the cloud, because those are a real render rather than a timeline file Eddie hands you.

Extras Eddie generates for you — voice-over, generated music, stabilization, multicam re-sync, stock b-roll, extra transcription, and analysis passes such as having Eddie watch a render and give notes. Each is priced by the work done and shows up as its own line in your credit history.

What's free

  • MP4 renders in the cloud — free, up to 30 renders per workspace per day, one running at a time. Re-downloading a render of an unchanged edit is free too.

  • Everything Eddie does inside a run that isn't one of the paid extras above — cuts, trims, reordering, captions, titles, transitions. No charge beyond the run itself.

  • Transcript, subtitle and plain-text downloads.

  • Opening and browsing projects, creating edits and versions, sharing a link, and collecting comments.

Auto-refunds

Some runs are given back to you automatically. You'll see them in your credit history as an Auto-refund line, with the reason:

  • the run made no changes to your edit;

  • Eddie was correcting its own mistake from a previous run;

  • you asked a billing or support question rather than for editing work.

If an import fails, its charge is refunded automatically as well. You shouldn't have to ask for any of these.

Check your balance and where your credits went

Your balance sits in the sidebar next to Buy, in the web app and in the desktop app.

For the detail, open the menu next to your balance and choose Credit history. It itemises every charge and every refund — when it happened, what it was for (media import, edit run, export, voice-over and so on), which project, who ran it, and how many credits — plus totals per category, so you can see where a month went.

Credit history is shown to the workspace owner: members spend the shared pool, the owner sees the books.

If your balance looks wrong in the desktop app, restart it to refresh — that resolves most display issues.

Free credits when you sign up

New accounts start with 1,000 free credits. That's about four hours of footage imported, or a shorter shoot with plenty left over for editing and exports — enough to run a real job through Eddie before you decide.

Buying credits

Click Buy next to your balance and choose a pack. Sizes and prices are shown at checkout; the larger packs work out cheaper per credit.

  • Buying from a team workspace tops up that workspace's shared pool.

  • Buying from your personal space tops up your own balance.

  • One balance covers everything — web, desktop and the MCP tools all draw on the same credits.

Prices are also on the home page.

If you run out

When your balance reaches zero, paid work pauses: imports and edit runs stop until you top up. Nothing is lost — your projects, edits and media stay exactly where they are and pick up again once credits are back.

An import that is already under way is finished rather than abandoned, so a large job can push your balance a little below zero (up to 500 credits). Top back up above zero and everything unlocks.

If you have an Eddie subscription

Subscriptions from the Eddie desktop apps still run, and the credits they grant are spent on Eddie's work just like credits you buy. What each plan includes — project sizes, file quantities, pro codecs — is listed here.

Certain Eddie subscriptions, such as the 1,000 Docs Complimentary Plan, require timely renewals to maintain Pro-level benefits. If not renewed, these plans will automatically revert to a free version, affecting available features and credits.

How to subscribe in Eddie Desktop

  1. Click the "Credits" button in the toolbar.

  2. Then click Upgrade and follow the directions.

How to subscribe on Eddie Web

Open the side bar:

Click the Upgrade button:

Pause/freeze your subscription

You can pause/freeze your subscription for up to 3 months. During this pause you will not be charged and your credits will be held until you resume your subscription. For example: if you have 10 credits before you pause, your account will have 10 credits when you resume. You can not use those credits during the paused period.

To pause your account, expand the left-hand project list panel, go to near the footer and click "Manage Account" like this:

Click "Pause Subscription" (see image below) and follow the screens:

Cancel/unsubscribe anytime

Once you've subscribed, you can cancel anytime. Cancel prior to the renewal date so you are not charged for the next billing period.

To unsubscribe: go to the Help menu and choose "Unsubscribe".

Money-back refunds

You can cancel your subscription anytime prior to the next renewal date and you will not be billed any further. We do not offer refunds of money paid. (The automatic credit refunds described above are separate — those happen on their own.)

Please test Eddie before you commit, to make sure you're happy with the edits and workflow. Every new account gets free credits on sign-up for exactly that.
