How to Use Eddie (Mac/Win) to Organize and Log B-Roll

Drop in your B-rolls; Eddie logs and organizes it in minutes; then seamlessly send it to your NLE with the relevant metadata.

Eddie (Mac/Win) now logs and organizes b-roll footage!

This article describes how you can use Eddie to do this. To learn about all the metadata it sends to your NLE, see this article.

Watch how to use Eddie (Mac/Win) to log and organize b-rolls:

1. Start a New Project:

  • Open Eddie Mac/Win (download Eddie here) and create a new project. B-roll organization/logging is not available on Eddie web.

2. Upload B-Roll Clips:

  • Navigate to the b-roll section after creating your project and click Next.

    Choose B-Roll mode

  • Click the upload icon and import b-roll clips from your local storage. The upload process can take around 10 minutes for the maximum number of clips, depending on your internet speed.

  • The amount of clips you can import into a project is dependent on which plan you are on, The higher the plan, the higher the quantity of files per b-roll project.

Import your footages

Update: Eddie can now choose the best parts of a b-roll and filter out set up / out of focus / blurred bits, creating a stringout of just the best subclips which makes it easy for you to skim through. To enable, select the requisite checkbox like in the screenshot below.

Optional: You can check "Find best subclips" option.

When you've selected all the clips you want to import, click the button "Import".

3. Export Your Footage:

  • Once uploaded, navigate to the export section in Eddie.

  • Select your desired NLE (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve) from the export options.

  • Click the export icon to generate the respective XML or FCPXML file.

  • OR Save the file to your computer.

Exporting Logged/Organized B-Roll to Adobe Premiere:

  1. Export Your B-Roll:

    • Choose Adobe Premiere from the export options and click the icon to export.

      Downloag xml file or drag into your editor
  2. Import into Adobe Premiere:

    • You have two options for importing:

      Drag and Drop: Drag the XML icon directly into your project bin.

      Drag exported xml file into your editor

      Manual Import: Go to File > Import, then select the saved XML file.

    • Your B-roll clips will be organized in Adobe Premiere, reflecting the tags and descriptions

Exporting Logged/Organized B-Roll to Final Cut Pro (FCP)

  1. Export Your B-Roll:

    • Select Final Cut Pro from the export options in Eddie.

      Download fcpxml or drag it into your FCP
  2. Import into Final Cut Pro:

    • Similar to Adobe, you have two options for importing:

      Drag and Drop: Directly drag the FCPXML icon into your event library.

      Drag exported fcpxml into your FCP

      Manual Import: Navigate to File > Import > XML and select your downloaded FCPXML.

    • Your B-roll clips will appear organized within FCP

Exporting Logged/Organized B-Roll to DaVinci Resolve

  1. Export Your B-Roll:

    • In Eddie, select DaVinci Resolve from the export options

  2. Import into DaVinci Resolve:

    • Open DaVinci Resolve and create a new project.

    • Go to File > Import > Media from XML and select the XML file you downloaded.

    • Import the XML, and your b-roll footage will be organized within the new project .
